A modern Greek language class for beginners will be offered by Dimitra Toothaker at St. Dimitrios Greek Orthodox Church from September to May. The class will take place on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month between 5:00 to 6:15 pm. Classes are designed to offer participants alternate formal instruction and informal use of the Greek language in a conversational group setting.
Also, we hope to have practice in conversational Greek to be guided by a native Greek speaker on the first and third Saturdays of each month between 5:15-6:15 pm. Details will be announced as plans are finalized.
All classes will end in time to attend Vespers at 6:30 pm.
The class will cover basic vocabulary and grammar to formulate sentences; month, days and time orientation; numbers; greetings; prayers ( the Lord's prayer and the Creed). The class will offer instruction in reading and writing.
The class is free. Freewill donations will be accepted to benefit Paideia of Maine, a Hellenic organization that promotes Greek education, culture and the arts.
